*A note on GMO's, a question I get asked a lot. Our philosophy is to use local & organic whenever possible, preferably both. When we can't, like for vinegars, some spices, and our mustard seeds, we try to seek out the most farm friendly (sustainable) sources we can. We use rice wine vinegar or imported Italian vinegars to avoid using the common brands that have a gmo corn mother. Our spices & mustard seeds come from the Monterey Bay Spice Company who do NOT sell any GMO products. Together we can keep our options and choices available, even in the middle of the pacific ocean. We believe family farms are the past, present and future of feeding our planet and are proud to support such forward thinking companies!
Cooking tips: Take our Roasted Meyer Lemon sauce, or any of the fruit based ones would work as well, and mix with an equal amount of butter and a pinch of salt, so say 1 Tablespoon each sauce & butter. Toss that with a few bunches of cut asparagus (about one inch pieces) minus the tips. Roast at *425 for about 5 minutes, toss in the tips and stir, roast for another 5-10 minutes until crunchy but cooked. Remember they will keep cooking for a few minutes while still hot. And eat! Works great with broccoli & other veggies, and on cold protein, potato & grain salads too.
Cooking tip 2: The Citrus Curry hot sauce made with local turmeric and loads of earthy spices is amazing mixed with whole yogurt. Depending on how hot you like it, you can make this hot, or incredibly mild so kids will even eat it! Start with a cup of yogurt and add hot sauce a Tablespoon at a time and stir, taste, until it is where you love it. 2 minute dressing and dip! We eat it on salads, chicken, a dip for egg rolls, raw veggie plates, one of my most requested products during the warm months at home and with friends.
Cooking tip 3: If you like vinaigrette's & super quick salad dressings with a warm glow, try our Roasted Lemon, Mandarin Ginger, Lilikoi Lava or Citrus Curry whisked with a light veggie oil like Safflower. Same ration as your favorite vinaigrette, either 1:2 (hot sauce: oil), 1:3 or 1:4. That's it! The sauce is already balanced with zing & salt & pepper. This dressing is great on green salads, salads with protein or grains.

Black Dog Farms Kauai is a small family farm growing fruit, herbs and spices on the
beautiful north shore of Kauai. We believe that healthy soil is the foundation for great
tasting and nutritious food, and only add plant based compost and natural
ingredients - no pesticides or herbicides.
Yes - we do have a black dog! And our granddaughter Sierra drew our logo of her when she was 5 years old.
